IPU can elect its second woman president - or not
Today we listened to the presidential candidate Nurhayati Ali Assegaf from Indonesia. I hope that the IPU receives its second female president in its 122 year history. There have been 25 men and one woman so far. Unfortunately, many opposes her with all practical means.
They ridicule her, they diminish her and they put pressure on certain countries, to vote for the candidate from Morocco.
Election to the new president will take place on Wednesday.

However IPU does a lot of other things too. Key policy issues for the whole world, such as disarmament, famine in Somalia, the Israeli occupation of Palestine and measures to prevent / mitigate the economic crisis
